Quote of the Week

“If passion drives you, let reason take the reins.”

The passion you have for the game is enough to push you to work hard while practicing in the gym, or to give every ounce of energy you have while lifting in the weight room, but effort is not the only thing that makes you successful. Your passion gives you the effort and drive, but your reason gives you the direction and purpose. Without a reason to workout you might be working as hard as you possibly can, but are you working smart? Where are your workouts leading you? What results are you looking for? These are all questions that need to be answered before, during, and after your workout/game/practice. Set a well-thought out path for yourself that keeps you driving forward, but at a pace that is realistic. Have a goal in mind, not only at the end of your path, but small goals along the way to keep you engaged and motivated to reach your ultimate dream. #OHoops

Back2Hoops

Today's session, the #OHoops Professors will focus on 1 specific move. The Killer Crossover! This is a counter to a basic drop between the legs move. With this move you will be able to change directions quickly while still protecting the ball. The goal is to make your defender believe you are going one direction with the ball and just as he attempts to cut you off, you change directions with an explosive crossover. Once learned correctly and repped to perfection this can be a very effective move. #Back2Hoops #Let'sBallLet'sGo

OHoops Quote of the Week

"The ONLY person that can stop you from doing what you want to do, or keep you from becoming who you want to become... is YOU!"

There will always be people in your life who tell you can't do something, or tell you that you won't make it. You will hear you're not big enough, not smart enough, waited too long, you're not in the right sport, you can't jump high enough, too short, too slow, too light; the reasons for not being able to do something will be endless. You only need one reason and one person to give you the passion for loving your dream, the motivation for working hard to reach your dream, and the satisfaction you get from accomplishing your dream... and that person is YOURSELF. You choose how hard you work. You decide how much effort you will put into being successful. You are in control of your own attitude and whether or not you look at things positively or negatively. Everything you want to do in life, comes down to whether or not you believe in yourself to do it! #OHoops

OHoopin' for the Cure

On Saturday, October 12th, OHoops (a Professional Basketball Training Facility out of Orlando, Florida) hosted their first annual OHoopin' for the Cure 3 v 3 Tournament to help raise money for the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation out of Miami, Florida.

With a ton of sponsors (including Sisters4Hope, Club Vain, Logan's Roadhouse, Trapp Law Firm, Wing Stop, Xymogen, Ollie's Public House, Gator's Dockside, Ker's WingHouse, Starbucks Coffee, Dunkin' Donuts, Tijuana Flats, Clippers Barber Shop, T.F.I. Friday's, Olive Garden, Papa John's Pizza, Publix, Rock'Em Apparel, Point 3, Anaconda Sports, Deucebrand, Bryan Meyers, Wilson, DeShawn Stevenson and Hoop Culture) the 12 team tournament was an indicator of how caring and generous the Orlando Community can be. As a result of the community's support, the tournament was a tremendous success.

Team Push, sponsored by Trapp Law Firm, would eventually emerge victorious in the championship game, but the highlight of the event happened after the tournament came to a close.

Brian Leitten, Co-Chair of the Education Committee for the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation, was invited on to the court to join Team OHoops as well as Marquel Jones and Jocelyn Caraballo from Hoop Culture, during our Donation Ceremony. He was then presented with a check for $1,000 dollars to be donated to the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation. The donation will help fund research and raise awareness for breast cancer throughout the state of Florida.

Again, OHoops couldn't have done it by themselves. As a result of the community's overwhelming support, OHoops is confident that this will become an annual event.  Everyone that came out was truly OHoopin' for the Cure!
